What types of organizations would fund a health care organization?
Q. I am writing a paper that requires me to find an organization or company that would fund a health care organization or social program. The program would be to train young people (ages 18 to 25) for free on basic health care, such as CPR, taking blood pressure, etc. Things people should know how to do in an emergency situation or if the situations simply warrants it. Does anyone know of any organizations or companies that would fund this type of thing? I've been trying to look but have not come up with anything.

A. I am currently researching grants to non-profit organizations in order to find funding for parent support groups for parents of children with disabilities, and would be glad to forward m Excell Spreadsheet on Grants to those providing their e-mail address. I know that insurance companies like Blue Cross and Aetna have set-up foundations to provide grants to non-profits engaged in educating young people in healthcare matters. my email: abelke59@yahoo.com

What organizations can I volunteer at that do not deal with the needy?
Q. Before the summer ends, I would like to do some volunteering with organizations that do not deal with the needy. I do not want to work for the homeless, the handicap, handicap children or the elderly (handicap or not). I also hate calling folks on the phone for blood or donations. My only explanation that I can give for my avoidance is that I do not have the patience or I am afraid that I would get too concerned about there lifes. I simply do not want to get involve or make any sort of "friendships" that may carry long time commitments. Thanks

A. try joining a club that does community service, or if none do, you can become a volunteer in your community and put in a year or two, and once it comes time to attend college, you can ask the people who worked with you for references.

A. At 13, no international program is going to take you unless maybe your parents go to. A better is idea is to engage in activities that will make you a better candidate for volunteering internationally when you are older, like working in HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns, learning another language well enough to work in, joining FFA, working with immigrants, etc. Here is a web site that can help you learn more about the skills and experience desired by volunteer placement agencies, and how you can engage in activities now to make you an attractive candidate some day: Even when you turn 18, you are going to be too young to volunteer for groups that send skilled volunteers to the developing world and *don't* charge the volunteers for the… [cont.]

A. I've got in contact with a couple NGO's that are there right now for volunteering...but it's almost impossible to volunteer there if you aren't a professional (doctor, nurse, etc...) b/c a lot of the activities that are needed there usually go to locals b/c they have heavy unemployment...so they pay a lot of people that live in certain area's of Darfur to do a lot of the work that you are looking to volunteer for.

A. Actually the World Karate Federation is one of the largest, if not the largest, in the world. They have an estimated 60 million members worldwide and include sub associations that number in the thousands. ATA is a large association but one of the least respected. WTF is the largest for Tae Kwon Do with about 8 Million world wide but they never update their database to exclude non training members. ISKA is very small in comparison so is NASKA, WUKO, NBL and the other sport associations.
