A rules lawyer is a participant in a rules-based environment who attempts to use the letter of the law without reference to the spirit, usually in order to gain an advantage within that environment. Often this term is used pejoratively, as the "rules lawyer" is seen as an impediment to moving the game forward. The use of this term is common in wargaming and role playing games. The term may have originated in military service, with sea lawyer (in the Navy) and "barracks lawyer" in the United States Army. Nevertheless, the habit of players to argue in a legal fashion over rule implementation was noted early on in the history of Dungeons and Dragons. Rules lawyers are one of the "player styles" covered in Dungeon Master for Dummies. The rules of the game Munchkin include various parodies of rules lawyer behavior.

Oklahoma rule against accepting cases for which the lawyer is not qualified?
Q. Does anyone know if there is such a rule and where I might find it? Thanks
Asked by eagle86bc - Tue May 26 17:55:56 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There's no law against it. It's assumed that a lawyer can educate himself/herself to become competent and/or associate with an attorney who is competent. Of course, there's also the issue of avoiding malpractice actions. Unfortunately, it happens all the time.

Can anybody recommend a lawyer (So. California) who specializes or is familiar with veterinary malpractice?
Q. Our dog had major back surgery two weeks ago, we now have been told that he is dying from lung cancer and only has a week to live. Are there any post op rules/regulations? We are devestated. Any help in the right direction is appreciated.

A. Wow... I am SO sorry to hear about your dog's condition. Firstly, I would seriously recommend that you get a second opinion from another vet, since it is clear that you don't trust this one. Tell the new vet everything. If there is cancer, they will confirm it... I don't think that lung cancer could have been caused by the surgery though. If it is something else, caused by the surgery or malpractice of the other vet, they will tell you. Go from there. You can start calling around lawyers in your phone book and ask them to refer you to someone who specializes in the area, or contact the SPCA and see if they can help, if this does, in fact, turn out to be malpractice. Good luck, I'll say a prayer for your pooch. I am so sorry.

Can someone translate from lawyer to English?
Q. .."rules of evidence are restricted re prior and subsequent incidents." what does that mean?
Asked by x_kookoo4kokopuffs_x - Wed Nov 26 17:45:24 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's tough to tell from just that short excerpt, but I assume that it means that similar incidents that happened before and after the incident in question will not be necessarily be admissible as evidence.
