Oceania (sometimes Oceanica) is a geographical, often geopolitical, region consisting of numerous lands—mostly islands in the Pacific Ocean and vicinity. The term "Oceania" was coined in 1831 by French explorer Dumont d'Urville. The term is used today in many languages to denote a continent comprising Australia and approximate Pacific islands, and is one of eight terrestrial ecozones.

The boundaries of Oceania are defined in a number of ways. Most definitions recognize parts of Australasia such as Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea, and part of Maritime Southeast Asia as being parts of Oceania. Ethnologically, the islands that are included in Oceania are divided into the subregions of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.

What's the basic difference between Medical schools in the US and the ones in oceania particularly NZ and Aus?
Q. i know that in NZ you just have to do a health science programme thats sort of like pre-med but is very very competitive because you only do it for a year and if successful you'll get straight into second year Med but if not then you'll have to do a BSc degree then apply again...but i have very little knowledge on how the americans do it though...any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks:)

A. Nothing much, only if you try to become a doctor in the US you would have to retake most everything, because the US doesn't honor foreign med schools. I was pre med, and went to school with a few people that were doctors in their home country. I took Clinical laboratory science as my major in the school of Allied science, it counted as pre-med with the addition to Gross Anatomy as an elective. Its pretty much the same from what I've gathered from foreign students. You're not missing much. But it is just as competitive, some people flunk out by getting too many 3.0s. Just, study study study!!!

A. I always thought of them as the same. But the definitions below give me a slightly different sense of them. Mostly that "Australasia" is a slightly narrower definition/area, focusing mostly on Australia and the islands closest to it. Calling it Australasia acknowledges the fact that Australia is the largest landmass of the Oceania region. There is a slight difference in looking at the two definitions I am referencing for you below. The Australasia one seems to definitely focus on the Australia part of things. Oceania is being more...inclusive, a wider area of the Pacific
