Proper nounOceania
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Oceania (sometimes Oceanica) is a geographical, and often geopolitical, region consisting of numerous lands—mostly islands in the Pacific Ocean and vicinity. The term "Oceania" was coined in 1831 by French explorer Dumont d'Urville. The term is also sometimes used to denote a continent comprising Australia and proximate Pacific islands, and is one of eight terrestrial ecozones. The boundaries of Oceania are defined in a number of ways. Most definitions include Australia, New Zealand and all or part of the Malay Archipelago. Ethnologically, the islands that are included in Oceania are divided into the subregions of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. From Wikipedia under the

Now that Australia has moved to the Asian round, what happens to Oceania in future World Cups? Asked by kurtness - Thu Jun 22 19:45:32 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. Oceania had half a spot, & South America had 4.5 spots. Thus the winner of Oceania played fifth place South America. The Spots are allocate with respect to the level of play in each region. The level of play in the Oceania region is not very high. Australia always topped the group except one year, I believe, and they win games by scores of 20 - 0. Oceania would continue in the same manner. New Zealand should replace Australia as top of group and probably hardly qualify for a WC.
