How are the fees for a mutual fund paid? Are they removed from your dividends and capital gains?
Q. I'm not talking about loads, just the fees that comprise the expense ratio. If i have a fund with 1% fees, will I be billed for these fees directly and then pay by check, or are they taken out of the dividends and capital gains before they are distributed, or are they actually part of the NAV calculation? How can it come out of account balances? They aren't going to force you to sell shares just so you can cover their fees are they?
Asked by P S - Thu Nov 29 15:56:51 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Management fees are factored daily into the NAV or Net Asset Value of your fund. The NAV is the price per share to buy or to sell a mutual fund. If there were no fees, for example, the NAV would a bit higher that it is and simply reflect the actual value of the stocks in the portfolio. But because ALL mutual funds have fees the NAV is always a bit lower. The difference between the NAV and the actual value of the portfolio is the profit for the fund company. The average difference between the NAV and the actual portfolio in most funds range between .5% to around 1.5% If there is a load in your fund you do not buy at the NAV but at the Maximum Offering Price (MOP) Which is the NAV plus the sales charge. When you sell a load fund… [cont.]

What fees do you have to pay to break into the entertainment industry?
Q. What fees do you have to pay to break into the entertainment industry? (acting, singing, etc) how long does it take to become an actor, if you are considered by an agent.
Asked by sk8erboi - Wed Nov 21 12:26:01 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You shouldn't have to pay anything except maybe for things needed to find an agent. Acting: head shots classes Modeling: Head shots classes aren't really required Singing: maybe recording a demo CD after you sign with an agency, it could take anywhere from a day to a few months to start acting/modeling/singing. many casting directors know what type of person they are looking for. at first, no one may be looking for your type. After a while you will probably get an audition. you can still go to an audition and casting directors may change their mind about what they are looking for. good luck! btw: head shots are about $300 to $600 after that an agency shouldn't make you pay.

How quickly do attorney fees accrue on a property that has gone into foreclosure?
Q. I am working on a property that is in foreclosure in WA state. It is 2 months into the process, $11,500 in back payments and taxes and a few thousand in attorney fees for the mortgage holder's attorneys. Is there a ballpark estimate of how much attorney fees will be once the 135 days is up and it goes to sale, and is there any formula for calculating the rate of their charges?
Asked by alison a - Tue Sep 4 12:58:53 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. HUD prescribes the attorney fees for a foreclosure. Even if the property is not a HUD property, most foreclosure attorneys bill by HUD guidelines. In NJ where I was involved in foreclosures, atty. fees were $1,200.00 per file. That does not take into account expenses, which can be many times that amount. There is title work, securing the property, taxes, accrued interest etc. which can add significantly to the mortgaged amount. For the specific amount in your case, just look at another judgment from the attorney involved in your foreclosure. They usually bill the same fee on all files if they work in volume. Good luck, I hope this helps.

What are the average fees for intellectual property attorneys?
Q. If I need a trademark(s) and copyright for a new game, what would the attorney fees be for consultation versus more hands on work? I'm looking for average fees or even lows and highs in the field.
Asked by akoni_ls - Wed Feb 11 20:35:07 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Many attorneys will provide you free consultation. Attorneys fees vary widely. You can probably find some solo practitioners with rate as low as $150 an hour. The big firms may charge you several hundred dollars per hour. Also, some firms offer fixed-rate payment options depending on the specific tasks you want them to complete.

What are some fees associated with joining a real estate agency?
Q. I am in a process of obtaining a salesperson license and will soon be looking for a broker to join. What are some fees that I must pay in order to join them? I know they differ from agency to agency but can someone give me examples on what they might be? Thank you!
Asked by Sung C - Mon Jan 5 21:42:25 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Interview several different agencies first, and see what each charges. Some fees all realtors in your area will probably have to pay: MLS fees and local board fees are pretty standard. But, depending on what commission cut they offer you and which one you decide to accept, there may or may not be additional fees for contracts, printing, fax service, signs, desk space, business cards, etc. Each company operates a little differently. But none are cheap. (ie. MY NRIS fees are $165 a Quarter and my CRS designation runs another $120 a year.)

What are the fees for directly using a bank of america debit card in Europe?
Q. I am going to poland for two weeks and was just planing on directly using my visa debit card to pay for items versus using hard cash. How high are the fees?
Asked by Anne - Sun May 23 22:55:04 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That depends on your bank and the contract you have with them. You can ask at your bank, they should know or be able to find the information for you. Otherwise, check the website of the bank. And tell your bank that you will be using your card outside the country, American banks have the tendency of blocking cards that show 'suspicious' use, even your own use abroad. When you do that, they can tell you whether your card is ready for use abroad and how much it is going to cost. Mostly the cheapest option is to get cash out of the ATM with your debit card and use a credit card for higher bills, like a hotel bill.

A. It's a used car, there should be no additonal fees. Settle on a complete price and don't let them add one cent to it.

How much can a bank charge for late fees on a mortgage loan?
Q. I made a mortgage loan payment after the due date which the bank charged me a $50.00 late fee. That is cool. I expected it. They claimed I skipped a payment because I went past 30 days between payments. They wanted a double payment at which I couldn't swing. The late fee rose up to $150.00 a month and now is up to $254.00 a month. My payment is $500.00 a month. I paid them $1000.00 in July to bring my payment up to date and to meet my monthly mortgage payment requirement for July. However, I did not pay the late fee in full. Many banks will tack on the fees to the end of the balance. My bank is not and is charging me $254.00 late fee on top of a late fee. Is this legal? Are there limits to what they can charge? One late fee has grown to $5 [cont.]
Asked by bighousemuse - Tue Sep 11 18:29:19 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. OK this is a complicated situation. I think that you need to go into the bank that holds your mortgage and get someone to sit down with you and figure this out. Do not leave until this is sorted out in a way that lets you catch up on all these late fees. I have no idea if this is legal or not, but that really doesn't matter at this point. Unless you want to take them to court, go in and get someone to figure this out with you. Usually it is easier to do this in person than over the phone. Call ahead to the bank and find out exactly who you need to speak with to get this fixed.

A. America does not have Chartered Accountants but you can do an Accounting degree. Expect fees and living expenses to be in the region of $50,000 to $75,000 a year and an undergraduate degree takes four years. After this you will need to pass CPA (Certified Public Accountant) exams which is the American equivalent

What fees are involved if I were to purchase a vehicle in the US and drive back to Canada?
Q. I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. I am interested in purchasing a vehicle in the next few months. With the Canadian dollar doing so well, prices for vehicles in the US are becoming very good. If I were to purchase a vehicle in the US, I would most likely need to get someone to change out the Dash Odometer from mph to kph and probably pay a few fees to register the vehicle in Canada. What are these fees and is it a good idea?

What are the agent fees when purchasing a home?
Q. I understand that when you sell your home, I would expect about 6% of the selling price to go to the selling agent. However, if you do not already own and you are working with an agent to purchase, what are the fees payable to the agent who finds you a home? Or are they paid only by the seller?
Asked by Danielle - Wed Dec 6 13:02:05 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You've gotten some partial answers here. So I'll try to explain it too... Find a Realtor who you trust. Sign a buyer's agency agreement with them. If the average going rate that listing agents are paying the buyers agents is 3%, then have your agreement say basically the following... I'm your buyer, you're my Realtor. Work hard for me, showing me the best houses for me. If 3% is paid to you by the seller or seller's agent, I won't pay you anything. If they only pay 2%, I'll cover the other 1%. If it's a FSBO, or for whatever reason they won't pay you anything, I'll pay you the whole 3%. This way, YOU get the best house, and eliminate the built in incentives to NOT show houses that won't result in a full paycheck. Note to sellers - [cont.]

How do I structure fees for leasing my commercial kitchen?
Q. I have a new, full-service commercial kitchen used for training purposes. I want to lease it to caterers during off hours. No one else does this in my area, so I have no fees against which I can compare. If I charge by the event, what percentage should I use? If I charge by the hour, what rate should I use?
Asked by habberdobby - Sat Feb 2 10:41:18 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would charge by the week, Sun-->Sat or maybe keep the weekend together, Mon-->Sund. Specify the hours and food storage capabilities so they don't encroach on your regular training during the day. I'd specify a place they can store food in fridges/freezers, both cooked and raw. And be VERY sure to specify cleanliness and sanitation measures to be take, so you dont' come in the next morning to a mess, or worse, an "invisible" but bacteria-laden mess with your students. Specify where to haul garbage, even down to who provides bags and paper towels. You will need to be sure your dish machine is always full of chemicals and that lessees know how to change or add more of all chemicals, how to mix mop water, how to mix sanitizing surface… [cont.]

What kind of paperwork/fees are associated with shipping to Canada?

I have never shipped to Canada before and I am in the US. Is there any fees, forms, or special procedures I have to go through in order to get this shipped?
Asked by Corey - Mon Mar 10 13:30:19 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. YES! Beware. I am a Canadian who shops on eBAY frequently. 1) Customs/Duty - when you go to send the package you must specify whether its a gift or business item. Gifts under $200 pay no duty. They will give you a green sticker to fill out for this. 2) IF you use USPS you are fine but if you use UPS standard there will be brokerage fees due to the recipient before they may receive the package and they can be quite stiff ($50+) If they refuse to pay them you are liable!

What sort of fines and fees does one pay when caught driving without a license in Texas?
Q. My 15 year old son took my car out for a joy ride without my permission. He totalled the car and received two tickets. One for driving without a license and the other unsafe speed. We live in Texas and I was wanting to know if this is going to cause him not to get his license at 16? And what fines and fees to expect to pay. He hit a tree and no other vehicles were involved.
Asked by Texas Happy Horn - Thu Jul 10 12:20:28 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hi! I'm a criminal defense attorney and I handle tickets like this quite often. These offenses don't carry a license suspension, but the driving without a license does carry a surcharge of $100 per year for 3 years if he's convicted, and failure to pay the surcharges will result in a suspension. You're going to want to make sure that he gets deferred adjudication. in order to avoid the whole mess. Every Class C Misdemeanor carries court costs of about $100 plus a fine set by the court of $10-500. So at minimum, he'll have to pay about $250, but it could be up to $1200. That will depend on the court. Best, Alison Grinter

How does the breakdown of fees work when someone gets a job through a recruiting firm?
Q. Does the job candidate have to pay any fees, or does the company pay the entire amount due to the recruiting firm?
Asked by georgiarevenuer - Wed Sep 26 18:11:57 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. By law it is illegal for a company to charge a candidate a job application fee, or a fee for an interview. Hunting for a job is murderous...career counselors I've talked to said you have maybe a 1 in 20 chance of getting an interview from a place you send your resume or application to, and maybe a 1 in 5 chance, on average, of actually getting an offer after that. And you can expect to spend about 1 month per $10K annual salary trying to find a position, assuming, of course, you truly spend full time days working full time to find a position right for you. Can you imagine what a huge burden it would be for an unemployed person with no income source if they had to pay even a $5 fee to apply someplace, applying to 100 jobs a month or even… [cont.]
