Geography (from Greek γεωγραφία - geographia, lit. "earth describe-write") is the study of the Earth and its lands, features, inhabitants, and phenomena. A literal translation would be "to describe or write about the Earth". The first person to use the word "geography" was Eratosthenes (276-194 B.C.). Four historical traditions in geographical research are the spatial analysis of natural and human phenomena (geography as a study of distribution), area studies (places and regions), study of man-land relationship, and research in earth sciences. Nonetheless, modern geography is an all-encompassing discipline that foremost seeks to understand the Earth and all of its human and natural complexities—not merely where objects are, but how they have changed and come to be. Geography has been called 'the world discipline'. As "the bridge between the human and physical sciences," geography is divided into two main branches—human geography and physical geography.

What were the implications in WW2 of America's geographical location?
Q. What were the pro's and con's of America's geographical location in ww2? How did they affect the flow of the war?
Asked by my2cents - Mon Aug 24 12:34:00 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. USA has 2 borders (not counting Canada and Mexico) being the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. This helps to protect the main 48 states by providing a buffer of distance between Asia and Europe. The only way to attack it would be through the use of aircraft carriers, which were in their infancy at the outset of WWII. Germany didn't have the navy to reach USA other than using submarines to sink allied shipping across the Atlantic. America's fleet was stationed in the Atlantic and the Pacific, a result of which was the Japanese bombardment of Pearl Harbor. They thought they would score a quick victory but instead dragged America into WWII on the side of Britain, France, and Russia.

What are the geographical considerations of whales?
Q. I know this question is a little odd, but I have to answer it for my bio class. Before you answer the top question, what is a geographical consideration??? I do not get it at all, so if you could help, that would be great! Thanks(:

A. This is just a guess, but could geographical consideration be where whales would consider living in the world? Taking into consideration where food could be found, where an appropriate mating ground is, where the temperature is favourable, where there are no predators, etc.
