From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A lawyer, according to Black's Law Dictionary, is "a person learned in the law; as an attorney, counsel or solicitor; a person licensed to practice law." Law is the system of rules of conduct established by the sovereign government of a society to correct wrongs, maintain the stability of political and social authority, and deliver justice. Working as a lawyer involves the practical application of abstract legal theories and knowledge to solve specific individualized problems, or to advance the interests of those who retain (i.e., hire) lawyers to perform legal services. The role of the lawyer varies significantly across legal jurisdictions, and so it can be treated here in only the most general terms. Q. Hi all, I am trying to sue my apartment management company since their employee (my on-site apartment manager) got into my apartment without my permission and stole lots of my personal and financial information and committed lots of fraudulent charges. My question is: How do I find a good lawyer who specializes in this case? I would also like to know how/where I can find lawyers who are willing to take on a case for a portion of the reward rather than an upfront fee. I am living in the bay area, California. Any help/information is greatly appreciated! Thanks. Asked by david s - Thu Oct 11 22:50:24 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would not say there is no upfront fee, but rather this cost has already been paid by the taxpayers, and it is called the City Prosecutor. I am sure you can work out one of those lawyer agreements where she will keep the penalty fines and you will be awarded the victim's restitution after the case is won. */End of Line. The ways in which lawyers apply their expertise can be broadly categorized into the following practice types: Private Practice: involves working alone or with partners in a law firm to provide legal services to clients (individuals or corporations); some lawyers specialize in one or more practice areas while others engage in general practice. Q. I will be graduating with a JD law degree and also a Masters in Health Administration, making health law the area of choice for my career. Does anyone know the range of jobs for lawyers working in/for hospitals as in-house counsel? I have tried to find answers online but could not find any. Thanks! Asked by Anna_1516 - Fri Oct 12 00:32:03 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Try going to CareerBuilder.com and Monster.com and see if there are any postings for those positions. A salary range will often be included in the posting. My mother worked for a hospital for 20 years, but not as a lawyer. My educated guess is starting salary as a lawyer will be $55 to $60k per year, but that will vary significantly depending upon which state and the size of the hospital. Good luck to you! Answered by Greg R - Fri Oct 12 07:33:26 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "lawyers" Lawyers are people who practice law. In most countries, lawyers enter their profession through a period of specialized study. Lawyers are a frequent target of criticism, in part because they are often the public face of unscrupulous parties such as persons being tried for crimes, because they employ a specialized jargon which makes it difficult for persons without a legal education to receive the benefits of the legal system without hiring a lawyer, and because they make up a disproportionate percentage of politicians.
