The Realm of New Zealand also includes the Cook Islands and Niue (self-governing but in free association); Tokelau; and the Ross Dependency (New Zealand's territorial claim in Antarctica). New Zealand is notable for its geographic isolation: it is situated about 2000 km (1250 miles) southeast of Australia across the Tasman Sea, and its closest neighbours to the north are New Caledonia, Fiji and Tonga. During its long isolation New Zealand developed a distinctive fauna dominated by birds, a number of which became extinct after the arrival of humans and the mammals they introduced. The population of New Zealand is mostly of European descent; the indigenous Māori are the largest minority. Asians and non-Māori Polynesians are also significant minority groups, especially in urban areas. The most commonly spoken language is English. Its cities also consistently rank among the world's most liveable. Elizabeth II, as the Queen of New Zealand, is the country's head of state and is represented by a non-partisan Governor-General. The Queen has no real political influence, and her position is essentially symbolic. I know the points system rewards you for a degree and training. I am just wondering if there is a quota for each country? Asked by John J - Sun Nov 11 13:29:07 2007 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments A. I don't think they have a quota but they do prefer people with skills they are short of and who have already lined up a job. So as long as there are people they need more waiting, you won't go I'd go in a minute but people my age can't unless very very wealthy. I love NZ, like California was before it was spoiled by all the immigrants after World War II. Hope they can keep it that way. Answered by Gaspode - Sun Nov 11 13:35:45 2007 What is the best way to travel from Australia to New Zealand? Q. I am planning a 2 week trip with 3 friends. We would like to surf, participate in the arts, and generally experience the best of what Australia and New Zealand have to offer. Any information about the best time to go, best way to get around, things to see, etc. would be fantastic! thanks. Asked by Alecsandr - Tue Apr 21 13:00:03 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. It's only a short haul by air from the eastern states of Australia to NZ...once there you might consider hiring a small camper van to tour ...saves money & gives you flexibility. Same applies here in Australia... If you are keen surfers there are many options on the east coast but I would suggest the southeast corner of Queensland as you have some fantastic beaches & yet haven't got far to travel to experience many of the attractions eg Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo , theme parks , rain forests , outback shearing etc etc . If you are into clubbing that is available as well.. Come & enjoy... Answered by Aussie - Tue Apr 21 16:53:17 2009 What is there to do in New Zealand during december?
Q. Me and my cousin were planning a trip arriving in Auckland from mid-December to late December if 2008. We are Female, ages 21 and 22 and students Want to experience culture and Christmas in New Zealand Any advice in planning the trip or being there would be helpful too! Asked by Kika - Thu Jan 10 14:43:46 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. If you're in Auckland from mid-late December then you can go to Christmas in the Park. This is fabulous with about 200,000 people packed into a park just out of the CDB listening to Christmas carols sung by kids and famous NZ'rs. The brilliant thing is that it's free! Like others have said, there are beaches to visit. Go to Waiheke Island and do a winery tour there. There are some great beaches there so spend a whole day there or even overnight. After Christmas Day there are lots of sales in the shops so if you're inclined to search for a bargain then they're there to be had! If you've got time, go to Goat Island - it's a little further afield and is about 2 hour drive north at most but it's really beautiful there.
